The winter months are mainly classified as December, January and February mainly because the weather is a little inconsistent and there are a few showery days, however it has still been known for swimmers to venture into the sea on Christmas day and sun seekers to get a healthy tan in January.
So the perfect weather, as well as all other advantages, made Cyprus one of the most attractive tourist destinations. Tourist arrivals increased by 10.3% to 3.53 million people in 2000, compared to 3.14 million in 1999. Total receipts from tourism increased by 16.8% to CYP 1,194 million in 2000 from CYP 1,022 million the previous year. The rate of increase was much faster than the corresponding number of tourist arrivals,indicating a rise in the amount of money tourists spent.
